Beaver Dam Education Association members help build and plant Little Free Libraries to benefit the community

As a way to help improve the lives of students and families in the community, the Beaver Dam Education Association is planting three Little Free Libraries (LFL) around the community to promote the love of reading. “We know and regularly see the benefits of reading throughout all stages of life,” the BDEA writes. “Little Free Libraries are simply boxes on posts where neighbors and community members can share books that they have enjoyed. Take a book and/or leave a book. It’s simple.”

Two teachers praised as heroes in Louisiana theater shooting

Two teachers “risked their lives to save others” during Thursday night’s shooting at a Louisiana theater. Both teachers – Ali Viator Martin and Jena Legnon Meaux – were shot during the incident and are recovering. The Iberia Association of Educators has set up a GoFundMe account to help Ali and Jena with medical expenses.

Public school supporters rally in Little Chute

Community advocates for public education from across the Fox Cities rallied on the streets of Little Chute Tuesday in the last of a series of five demonstrations organized by the Fox Cities Advocates for Public Education. “It was great to be involved in each community in the Fox Cities to show support for public education,” the group wrote on its Facebook page. “We stand by our schools in the Valley!”

Diana Callope of Whitewater wins national education award

WEAC member Diana Callope, a math teacher at Whitewater Middle School, has been named a winner of the 2016 California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence, one of public education’s most prestigious awards. Diana is among 42 public school educators nationwide who will be honored. Diana is Wisconsin’s 2015 Teacher of the Year and was previously named Wisconsin’s Middle School Teacher of the Year.
